Ian Machado Garry’s corner blamed following UFC 330 loss as TJ Dillashaw criticizes

TJ Dillashaw wasn’t a fan of the way Ian Machado Garry’s corner approached the fight.

Islam Makhachev’s coach praised Machado Garry after the two welterweights went five rounds at the Xfinity Mobile Arena on August 15.

Despite this, the challenger has also received a lot of criticism since falling short in his first title fight.

A lot of people have taken issue with Machado Garry’s conduct, though it has also been argued that his coaches should have done better.

TJ Dillashaw criticizes Ian Machado Garry’s corner for confusing UFC 330 advice

Ian Machado Garry has taken positives from the second loss of his career after going five rounds with the current welterweight champion.

However, Dana White was critical of Machado Garry for showing a lack of killer instinct in the biggest fight of his career.

The likes of former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw believe that the challenger was too focused on defense across the duration of the bout.

During an episode of the Jaxxon Podcast, he also highlighted how Machado Garry’s coaches didn’t help him to focus on key points.

Dillashaw said that things became disorientating in between rounds because the corner didn’t nominate one person to relay information or structure their advice more clearly.

“Talking about the corner and game plan, when I watched the fight and they would show the corner, none of them were in sync,” he said. “They were all trying to talk at the same f—— time… They’re speaking Portuguese, they’re speaking English, all of them are talking at the same time. I was like, ‘Yo, shut the f— up.’ Let one person go in there.”

TJ Dillashaw certainly made the point that Ian Machado Garry’s corner could have made their advice in between rounds clearer.

However, one member in particular was likely a huge help during the grappling exchanges.

Demian Maia is one of the greatest jiu-jitsu practitioners in MMA history and will have spent a lot of time working with Machado Garry for this fight.
