Ian Machado Garry watched on as Jack Della Maddalena failed to replicate his feat in Saturday’s UFC Perth main event.
A man with whom the Irishman is very familiar had his hand raised, as Carlos Prates brutally stopped Della Maddalena in the Australian’s own backyard.
The Brazilian made it three wins in a row at the RAC Arena to stake his claim for a first shot at Islam Makhachev’s welterweight title.
Unfortunately for Prates, his one defeat inside the Octagon 13 months ago may have put him second in the pecking order.

Ian Machado Garry gives a harsh assessment of Jack Della Maddalena’s UFC Perth performance
Garry defeated Prates in the UFC, handing the Brazilian his one and only loss inside the Octagon in the Kansas City main event.
It is safe to say that the Irishman was rooting for his former rival to keep up his winning ways since that setback in April 2025.
“I hope Carlos Prates punches JDM’s lights out,” Garry wrote on X.
“Jack is DONE. He doesn’t wanna be there. Carlos give me the big KO,” he added in another post.
He pretty much had that wish granted, as Prates pieced up the home favorite with devastating punches and knees en route to the TKO stoppage in round three.
Garry subsequently gave a strong assessment of Della Maddalena’s display in the UFC Perth main event after a successful ‘hate watch’ of his welterweight rival.
“Jack had nothing. Nothing.”

Garry is expected to be next in line for a title shot at 170 pounds, having followed up his win against Prates with a victory over Belal Muhammad last November.
There has yet to be confirmation of that from the UFC, however, and Garry has repeatedly berated Makhachev for supposedly delaying their fight, which is now rumored for UFC 330 in August.
