St-Pierre wasn’t ruling the chances of Strickland winning out when making the case that it’s not always the best fighter who gets his hand raised.
Khamzat Chimaev is said to be ‘obsessed’ with getting the rematch after many felt like the defending champion was far from his best this past weekend.
While this may be the case, ‘GSP’ highlighted that the new middleweight titleholder now has a track record for emerging victorious in these scenarios.

Georges St-Pierre suggests Sean Strickland should have a new nickname after continuing to produce upsets
Sean Strickland’s coach told Khamzat Chimaev that he isn’t the ‘boogeyman’ during their mid-fight conversation on May 9.
In a recent interview, UFC legend Georges St-Pierre shared his thoughts on the fight and admitted that while he wasn’t counting Strickland out, the result caught him by surprise.
The former welterweight and middleweight champion suggested that the new titleholder should have a new nickname following the upsets he’s been able to record.
“The odds highly favored Khamzat. I think Sean should change his nickname for ‘The Boogeyman.’ He’s been doing this a few times now,” St-Pierre told MMA Junkie. “He beats guys that nobody thinks he’s going to beat. It’s pretty unbelievable what he’s been doing. He did it with a shoulder injury, and it’s pretty amazing what he did.”

St-Pierre also recognizes that Chimaev’s performance could have been impacted by outside factors.
Despite this, he still believes that ‘Borz’ is a better fighter than the man who ended his undefeated run this past weekend in Newark.
St-Pierre referenced, just like he did before the fight, that being the better fighter doesn’t guarantee that you’re always going to leave the Octagon with a win.
“Nobody’s invincible,” he said. “It’s not the best fighter who wins the fight, it’s the fighter who fights the best, the night of the fight.
