The former world champion Muhammad was back in action, this time against Machado Garry. Garry’s win over Carlos Prates the last time around continues to age well. The co-main event at UFC Qatar was between the two men, who both knew that a victory would earn them a shot to gold.

Muhammad was well aware that a victory would lead to confusion due to his relationship with Islam Makhachev, the newly-crowned champion. Garry, on the other hand, was not concerned about this issue. He insisted that he came to Qatar specifically to win the top contender spot.

Ian Machado Garry was as confident as ever, and he made his way into the octagon like it was an automatic win. He took a moment to express his love for former opponent Shavkat Rakhmonov, who was sitting cageside.
However, the usually unpopular Belal Muhammad was treated to a hero’s welcome as he returned to action in front of essentially a home audience in the Middle East. He was almost in danger within seconds when Garry poked him in the eye, but he chose to continue.

Garry went into the first round as a striking match that was relatively even, and he tried to look like the far superior striker on paper. He sat down a little more, and Muhammad was even knocked out with a kick to the leg. The round ended with a lot of activity.
The second round was much more successful for the former champ who found his range. Muhammad might be disappointed that Garry did not lose a point because of a second incident where he poked Garry’s eye in the final minutes of the round.
Muhammad, knowing that he could be two down, flew out of his traps and landed a right hand on Garry within the first minute ….
