They are now further from first place. Giorgi mamardashvili, who saved Erling haaland’s spot-kick in the first period, gave Slot’s team an early boost. City Just 0.81 expected goals were outside the spotkick. It doesn’t change the fact that Liverpool had only one shot at goal and 0.71 expected goals. James Benge said at Etihad stadium that Liverpool had done little to solve the problems which have plagued them throughout the season.
Benge: [from the international break]They will do it to a squad that hasn’t addressed issues that were evident since the Community Shield. This team cannot defend its flanks … The problem wasn’t [Conor] Bradley. Bradley. [Jeremy] Doku is in his current shape. Liverpool tried to throw two at him. But Dominik Szoboszlai proved no more effective. When the opportunity arises, [Mohamed] Slot had no problem letting Salah shade the defence last season. The loss leaves them eighth, eight points off the top spot that they held so firmly at this point last season. City Haaland’s goals were not perfect, but Doku and Josko gvardiol scored their own. Guardiola’s side is only four points back of Arsenal after 11 matches. They are now the most likely contenders for the title as the race begins to take shape. Matchday 3.

Midfield Link Play Lyon look to extend perfect UWCL startIt may still be early days in this season’s edition of the UEFA Women’s Champions League but heading into Matchday 3, a few teams have already begun to stake their claim as potential winners. Five teams are in this week’s fixtures having won two games out of two. This list includes a match with surprises such as Wolfsburg and Manchester United. Barcelona, OL Lyoness and Manchester United are all on the winning streak. The latter can continue their win streak Tuesday against Wolfsburg. Lyon is the eight-time UEFA Women’s Champions League winner, but they have reinvented themselves in order to match modern ambitions. A handful of mainstays departed the club in recent years, but a selection of younger stars has replaced them – midfielders Melchie Dumonay and Lily Yohannes have stolen the show in their first wins of the European season, Dumonay doing so in a 2-1 win at reigning champions Arsenal on Matchday 1. This season’s slogan is “New Story Same Legend” which is especially fitting under the new ownership and management. Ada Hegerberg – one of the team’s mainstays in a time of transition – said recently that the newcomers, including the new manager Jonatan Ghiraldez, have been welcomed additions to a storied Lyon squad.
Hegerberg: He’s a guy that is very intense about the way he works. He’s highly competitive, which I find very positive. I enjoy competition. He has already started doing his interviews with Lyon in French. That shows a commitment and leadership on the part of our team. I hope that we can work together and achieve what he is looking for as a team. That’s what will help us move forward. It’s exciting. We must build stone by stone and piece by piece to achieve our goals.”How quickly Giraldez is able to assemble all the pieces will be the biggest question facing Lyon this season. This includes the match against Wolfsburg on February 2. This match is a chance for Giraldez to put some distance between his team and the other Champions League teams, as only four teams from the league phase are guaranteed direct qualification into the quarterfinals. Top Stories Gotham FC’s first major upset in the NWSL playoffs was the ouster of No. Kansas City Current wins extra time and sets up a semifinal match with Orlando Pride. Washington Spirit and Portland Thorns will also play each other as the four remaining NWSL teams. NWSL to Atlanta – The NWSL is reportedly going to award Atlanta an expansion team. They will accept a league record fee of $165m for a franchise backed both by MLS’ Atlanta United as well as the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.
A “clear” mistake?Arne Slot, Liverpool manager, stated that it was obvious and clear the wrong decision was taken when Virgil van Dijk’s goal was disallowed during the first half of Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester. City. Miami advances: Lionel Messi netted a pair of goals in Inter Miami’s 4-0 victory against Nashville SC on Sunday, earning a spot in the Eastern Conference semifinals to face FC Cincinnati. The Back Line’s best betsUEFA Women’s Champions League OL Lyonnes vs. Wolfsburg Tuesday, 3 p.m. THE PICK: Under 2.5 goals scored (+140) – OL Lyonnes enter this match as the clear favorites, with talented attackers like Tabitha Chawinga and Melchie Dumonay likely to lead the charge as they look for a third win in three. Wolfsburg may still come out on the losing side despite their best efforts but goalkeeper Stina Johannes may have it in her to come up with a big performance that at least restricts Lyon’s attacking might, especially since the French side are only off to a modest start up top with just five goals in two games so far this season in Europe. For more picks, predictions, expert tips and the latest betting news, don’t miss out on CBSSports.com’s betting home page.
