After their third and last fight, Erik Morales had to be separated from Marco Antonio Barrera.
The legendary Mexican pair first faced off for the WBO Super Bantamweight championship in February 2000. Erik Morales picked up a controversial decision win in the fight that is regarded as one of boxing’s best-ever.
Marco Antonio Barrera had his revenge two year later. In June 2002, he was dropped by a body shot that was ruled a slip before walking away with a unanimous decision victory that most people thought should’ve gone the other way.
So, the stakes couldn’t have been higher when they completed their epic trilogy in November 2004.

Erik Morales’ fight with Marco Antonio Barrera, III was for the WBC Super Featherweight Belt.
Their fight was much more than this, as bitter rivals fought to earn life-long bragging right.
At the end of another pulsating 12-round brawl, which was later named Ring Magazine’s Fight of the Year for 2004, Barrera was declared the winner by majority decision, with scores of 115–113, 115–114, and 114–114.
But the third bout was still going on as the announcer told us who won the trilogy.
Morales and Barrera exchanged words at first but it quickly became heated.
Barrera’s win was announced after the security team intervened.
The ‘Baby-Faced Assassin’ celebrated his second win over Morales by pointing two fingers in his face while being hoisted into the air by a member of his team.
