Mike McDaniel: ‘Everything is on the table’ to potentially bench Tua Tagovailoa

Miami Dolphins eliminated from playoff contention after losing to Aaron Rodgers’ Pittsburgh Steelers 28-15 on Monday night. The Dolphins came into this matchup with a winning streak of four games, but they were easily beaten down by the better team. TuaTagovailoa, the Dolphins’ starting quarterback, is being questioned again after he completed a 22-of-28 passes for 253 yds, two touchdowns and one interception. Box score does not tell the whole story. Tagovailoa scored both of his passing touchdowns in the fourth, when Miami already trailed by double-digits. The Dolphins also went 2 for 8 on third downs. McDaniel said he did.  McDaniel stated, “I think the quarterback play was not good enough last night, so everything is up for discussion.”

McDaniel replied, “I think we are currently in the process for game-planning the Cincinnati Bengals. In that process, we’re trying to determine which quarterback will give us the greatest chance of winning. I’ll give you more clarification tomorrow as it is 14 hours after the game.” The Dolphins also have two other quarterbacks: former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson and rookie Quinn Ewers. Wilson may take over the offense if Tagovailoa is benched. Ewers, the designated QB3, was the designated quarterback on Monday night. The former Pro Bowler seems to have lost his edge this season. Tagovailoa topped the NFL in 2022 with yards per try and passer rating. In the following year, Tagovailoa led the NFL with 4,624 passing yards. This led him to sign a four year, $212.4million extension in July 2024 with $167million in guarantees.

Tagovailoa is a player that the Dolphins will not be able to let go of easily if they decide to move on this offseason. Former No. The contract for the former No. Tagovailoa could be leaving Miami this week.
