Favorite ‘Dogs: Back Seahawks to Upset Red-Hot Rams

Last weekend in the NFL was challenging for some of the week’s biggest favorites. The Bills lost to the Dolphins (and were blown away), while the Panthers had a difficult time in their unfamiliar role as favorites. They fell to the Saints. Both the Broncos (and Colts) were huge favorites. They won by a small margin, but failed to cover their point spreads. What’s in store for this week? Let’s take a look at some potential upsets — one in college football and one in the NFL.This page may contain affiliate links to legal sports betting partners. I believed that they would play the spoiler role and make a great effort to salvage a losing season. While they nearly pulled off the outright upset, losing via a last-second touchdown, I’m not sure if we see that same enthusiasm this week against Michigan State. The Nittany Lions were given the opportunity to play an undefeated No. They were prepared for the challenge. What is really at stake in this week’s match? Just over a months ago, PSU dreamed of returning to College Football Playoff, and was one the favorites to win. Now that all of those hopes have been crushed, are the Nittany Lions really going to go on the road and play inspired football against a team that isn’t playing for much itself? I thought they would have a great effort and a solid performance last week; I’m skeptical they can duplicate that intensity this week. I think the Spartans not only cover the number but pull off the outright upset.PICK: Michigan State (+7) to lose by fewer than 7 points or win outrightSeahawks @ RamsSeahawks’ quarterback Sam Darnold finds himself in a similar position to the one he was in last year. Darnold’s 14-3 record with the Vikings was good enough to earn him a wild card spot last season. Darnold’s team is one of the best in the league this year. However, they are not guaranteed to win a division. The NFC West would be much closer to being won if the Rams were to win this week’s game. Seahawks are a top team on offense and defense but I believe their special teams give them an edge in this game. According to the respected metric DVOA the Seahawks have the second best special teams in the league, while the Rams come in 23rd. Los Angeles has recently demoted Josh Karty as its kicker. He is only 10-for-15 in field goals so far this season and has missed 3 extra points. Jason Myers is a Seahawks kicker who has a field goal success rate of 17-21 and an extra point success rate of 32-32. Seattle is the NFC’s best team in terms of point differential. They have outscored their opponents by 105 this season. With a decided advantage in special teams, I think the Seahawks get a statement win in L.A. and take a big step toward landing the top seed in the NFC.PICK: Seahawks (+3) to lose by fewer than 3 points or win outright Will Hill, a contributor on the Bear Bets Podcast, has been betting on sports for over a decade.
