I didn’t feel like he was pushing it. This is not due to his (hamstring), but because he was sick. I was worried he wouldn’t play. … I thought that he was fine, but it wasn’t my intention to give him 17 minutes and a quarter in the first period. I had planned to play him about 14 minutes, but when he played however many he did to begin the second half he was exhausted. It may have been different if it was a close match, but I didn’t want to play him more than 27.”
Peterson, one of the most highly touted guard prospects to come out of the high school ranks in years, made his collegiate debut against Green Bay last month, finishing with 21 points, four rebounds and three assists. Against North Carolina on the road, Peterson scored 22 points in a 87-74 loss.Self told reporters last month that Peterson’s hamstring issue had been lingering for “weeks,” but he played through it in the early part of the season. Peterson was forced to leave a game against Louisville because of cramps. He also left the second half of a match against Green Bay.
