Alexander Volkanovski says Max Holloway can’t afford to adopt old style in Conor McGregor

Alexander Volkanovski believes the adjustments Max Holloway has made will be key on July 11.

Volkanovski has said that Conor McGregor will still be very dangerous despite returning from a five-year hiatus for his main event.

Despite what fans may think about ‘The Notorious’ coming back, Holloway isn’t underestimating McGregor either and is preparing for the best version of his former foe.

As someone who has faced ‘Blessed’ on three occasions, the current UFC featherweight champion believes that the way he’s changed his style is crucial to how this fight plays out.

Alexander Volkanovski highlights Max Holloway’s improved defense in Conor McGregor rematch breakdown

Max Holloway has predicted that he’ll ‘drown’ Conor McGregor in their rematch as a fighter that is known for his relentless output.

Alexander Volkanovski came out on top against ‘Blessed’ on three separate occasions, but not every clash between them was the same.

‘The Great’ explained in his breakdown of the fight that every time he faced Holloway, his former featherweight rival became better at sacrificing some of his output to be more defensively sound.

Volkanovski believes that Holloway needs to continue implementing these changes instead of reverting back to his old ways at UFC 329.

“This is the type of style that he’s going to need for someone like Conor. A good long range, not fall for the traps. Maybe a jab, pull, pulling himself out of range, off center, for these big, hard counters that Conor will still have…

“Can he rely on that volume striking to do so like he used to? No. I think that could lose him the fight. But, the fighter that Max is today, I think he’s going to be safe enough to not get hit too much.”

Volkanovski used footage of their fights and Holloway’s win over Justin Gaethje to show how the former featherweight and BMF champion has gotten better at not being there for counter shots.

He also broke down footage showing how McGregor is so effective at slipping his opponent’s shots in order to perfectly retaliate with significant blows of his own.

With the way Holloway’s style has changed, Volkanovski is backing him to come out on top despite him believing that you can’t count ‘The Notorious’…
