When Freddie Potts starts for West Ham in the Premier League, they don’t lose.Yes, the sample size is small, their last three games were against Newcastle, Burnley and Bournemouth, and many factors have contributed to West Ham’s turn in form, but Potts is certainly one of them.
For Potts, one of those factors is more “fight”, and he’s certainly had to battle to get himself in the first team. The academy product has been transformed by his two-year loan to Portsmouth and Wycombe. He is now a physically fit player who can compete at the highest level.

Potts has been living the dream shared by thousands of young West Ham fans since he joined the team at Newcastle. A lifelong fan who joined the club at just six years old and was ball-boy for the last game at Upton Park, playing for West Ham isn’t merely a career choice, it’s personal.
Nuno Espirito-Santo has tried to lower expectations in recent weeks. His composure on the field and in our interview made me feel like I had just met a future West Ham Captain.
“It means everything to me as a fan of the club,” The 22-year-old man said.
“I joined when I was six, and it’s all I’ve ever dreamt about. Working my way up the age groups and following the footsteps of the players who came through the academy.”
