4 Takeaways From The Rams’ Win Over The Seahawks

SoFi Stadium (Inglewood) – Sam Darnold once again showed he was not ready for primetime, especially during a major game on the road, against the Los Angeles Rams. Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold had four interceptions during their 21-19 loss against the Rams. Darnold’s turnovers played a part in the Rams’ 21-19 loss. The Rams scored two of their three touchdowns because they had a short field position from the interceptions. Seahawks’ linebacker Ernest Jones IV does not blame Darnold for the loss, despite his mistake-prone performance. Jones told reporters that the game was football. “He’s our quarterback and we’ve got his back. If you’ve got anything to say [about that], quite frankly, f— you.” The Rams, who had won five consecutive games, improved to 8-2 for the season with the victory in the critical NFC West matchup. The Seahawks’ four-game win streak was snapped and they now stand at 7-3 for the season. Sam Darnold catches turnover bug … again The USC product had been playing at an MVP level entering Sunday’s contest. Darnold had thrown just six interceptions on the year before facing the Rams, but at least one in the last three games.Facing constant pressure from L.A.’s menacing front, Darnold was intercepted a disappointing four times by the Rams, putting the Seahawks’ defense in a tough position to try and limit the damage. The Seahawks were able to limit the Rams’ scoring from those turnovers by holding them to just 14 points. However, the lack of scoring from one of the league’s best offenses (at least statistically) is concerning.Darnold’s performance was eerily similar to his struggles the last time he faced the Rams as the quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Wild Card game last season. Darnold had a similar performance against the Detroit Lions last season in the regular-season’s final matchup. Seattle’s team is built to go deep in the playoffs, so a strong postseason run is essential. 1 priority for head coach Mike Macdonald will be getting his starting quarterback’s confidence back. 2. Rams still reigning NFC West kings, but chasing the No. Sean McVay, the head coach of the Rams, stressed the importance of earning home-field advantage this playoff season. With the win over Seattle, they took another major step toward achieving that goal. The Rams, at 8-2, are one game ahead of Seattle in the NFC West. They’re also a half-game better than the Philadelphia Eagles. However, seven of L.A.’s next seven opponents have winning records, including a rematch with the Seahawks in Seattle in five weeks.Seahawks’ defensive lineman Leonard Williams told reporters in the locker room after the loss, “I look forward to them again.” Kyren William is the Rams offensive star, running the football. Matthew Stafford has a good chance of winning the league MVP. Williams finished with 92 yards on 10 attempts and a touchdown. Stafford, however, was happy to pass the ball to Williams. Stafford only passed 150 yards for two touchdowns but, more importantly, didn’t turn over the ball. Williams averaged 5.7 yards per carry and 65 yards when he missed tackles, according to Next Gen Stats. This is the second highest total for a single game in his career.  Ethan Evans’ coffin corner kick helps Rams seal victory Special teams have been an issue for the Rams this season. However, punter Ethan Evans executed a perfect punt by kicking the ball out of bounds at Seattle’s 1-yard line with 1:41 left and his team leading by two points. Darnold successfully moved his offense into field-goal position. Jason Myers had a chance at a career long 61-yard goal to win the game. But Myers’ kick was short and wide right, and the Rams escaped with an important win due in large part to Evans’ impressive kick. 4 ½. What’s next?Winners of five straight, the road doesn’t get any easier for the Rams, who host Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-4) in a nationally televised game on Sunday night. Los Angeles is currently 3-2 within the NFC conference and could use a win against Tampa Bay to boost its chances at the NFC’s tiebreakers. This is why the Rams will trail the Eagles at the end of the season for the No. If the Lions lose to Philadelphia on Sunday, the Rams will be the No. The Seahawks will be looking to bounce back when they travel to Nashville and face Cam Ward’s Tennessee Titans. This is the first of three consecutive games against teams that have losing records, before hosting both the Indianapolis Colts (in back-to-back weekends) and Rams (in consecutive weeks). Eric D.
