T.J. Watt passed a familiar name on the NFL career sacks list. The Steelers pass rusher has now surpassed his older brother JJ, a CBS Sports NFL color commentator who had a Hall of Fame NFL career with the Texans. Watt’s historic sack was the catalyst for the Steelers’ winning touchdown in the second quarter of Sunday’s match against the Bears. Nick Herbig picked up Watt’s strip sack of Caleb Williams, in the end zone. The score gave the Steelers a 14-7 lead over the Bears Watt now has 115 career sacks, which is 26th on the all-time list. JJ Watt said that it was a “hell of a break to my record” as he served as color analyst in Sunday’s game.
JJ Watt’s 12-year NFL career saw him become a three-time defensive player of the year. Watt led the NFL twice in sacks and three times in tackles-for-loss.
T.J. Watt told CBS Sports that he felt spoiled by being able watch his brother play. “He would get 1-2 sacks every game, three TFLs in a game and batting passes. It was so natural that I just took it for granted. It wasn’t until I joined the NFL that I realized what an arduous task it was to achieve his level of success. I’m very impressed with him and all that he has accomplished, because it’s so difficult to achieve success at this level.T.J. developed his own NFL reputation quickly after being chosen by the Steelers at the 2017 NFL Draft. In 2018, he was selected to his first Pro Bowl. He earned the first of his three consecutive All Pro nods in 2019. And in 2021, he won Defensive player of the year after Michael Strahan broke Michael Strahan’s record for sacks in a single season.
