The administrators running Sheffield Wednesday have received an extraordinary enquiry from the owners of Sheffield United, asking about a possible deal to merge the two rival clubs.Wednesday is currently up for sale, with an asking price believed to be in excess of £30m, after previous owner Dejphon Chansiri put the club into administration at the end of last month, incurring an automatic 12-point deduction in the Championship.
Sky Sports News received a report that a message was sent by COH Sports to administrators, claiming to come from the American owners United. The email asked for hints about the possible price to ask for United on Wednesday as well as more details about the current state of finances and assets in Hillsborough.
The Blades board is co-chaired by Helmy Eltoukhy and Steven Rosen, both of whom are businessmen. Eltoukhy is the chairman and founder of biotech company Guardant Health, while Rosen is Resilience Capital Partner’s founder and chairman.
