Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano: Bloody Elbow staff predict UFC Hall of Famer’s first fight

Ronda Rousey will return to MMA for the first time in 10 years on Saturday night.

‘Rowdy’ retired in 2016 after suffering back-to-back knockout losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes.

Gina Carano will be her comeback opponent. The WMMA pioneer hasn’t fought since 2009, but she’s remained in the public eye after launching a second career in acting.

Will Ronda Rousey return with a win?

Jordan Ellis: “Ronda Rousey should breeze through her fight with Gina Carano. Both have been out for a very long time, but Carano fought in an era where the level of competition was extremely low. I don’t expect her to be able to defend the judo throw or armbar that made Rousey a UFC Hall of Famer.

    PREDICTION: RONDA ROUSEY BY SUBMISSION

Donagh Corby: “There’s no way of knowing how good either Ronda Rousey or Gina Carano still are at this stage. Carano has constantly talked about her insistence on finding a proper camp and getting comfortable training again before getting back in the cage, which Rousey doesn’t seem all that concerned with. But Rousey was always the more serious athlete, and I think that will show.”

    PREDICTION: RONDA ROUSEY BY SUBMISSION

Jamie Theodosi: “Despite Rousey’s ongoing neurological issues, I think she has the edge over Carano in this one, and I can see her scoring a submission in the first round.”

    PREDICTION: RONDA ROUSEY BY SUBMISSION

Kyle Dimond: “Gina Carano coming back after such a long time is just such a big question mark that I struggle to see any outcome other than a Rousey submission early. That judo skillset won’t have gone anywhere, so I think on muscle memory alone, that’ll get her the win.”

    PREDICTION: RONDA ROUSEY BY SUBMISSION

Harvey Leonard: When two fighters have been away for so long, I think it’s impossible to use their actual skill sets to make a prediction. We simply don’t know what condition they will be in. With that, I think it’s as simple as picking who has been away from the sport for the least amount of time, and who I would have picked to win a fight in their prime. That is Ronda Rousey.
