NFL Week 8 picks, odds, predictions: Best bets, survivor plays, expert tips

The NFL is back with another week of exciting matchups. Week 7 brought plenty of stunners, including Joe Flacco’s shootout with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cleveland Browns’ routing of the sinking Miami Dolphins and the Denver Broncos coming back from down 19 in the fourth quarter to beat the New York Giants. In Week 8, we have another exciting slate of games. As with every week during the season, CBS Sports and SportsLine have collected their best betting content and picked the top picks. This way you can access picks against spreads from CBS Sports as well additional feature content including the SportsLine Projection Model and plays from top SportsLine expert, our staff’s best bets and survivor selections. Ready? Ready? NFL odds via DraftKings Sportsbook (unless otherwise noted). DraftKings Sportsbook offers new users $300 in bonus wagers as well as three months of NBA League Pass for free. Falcons 7: “The Dolphins seem to be on the brink of a total meltdown. Mike McDaniel looks like a man on the verge of death, and TuaTagovailoa could not stay long as Miami’s first QB. Tagovailoa had three interceptions in his second consecutive game against the Browns. This was the demoralizing result of a 31-6 loss. “Those struggles will likely not subside against the Falcons defense, which is allowing only the second fewest total yards and passing yards per match (265.2).” Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports NFL explains his belief that Atlanta will beat Miami and cover the spread.

“[Survivor-pool options] This week, the Chiefs are double-digit favorites again for the second week in a row. Six other teams have odds of about a touchdown. Bills is the only team on the road this week to face the Panthers. Falcons Eagles Ravens Patriots Bengals are at home. If the Bengals are coming off a win, should survivors bet on them to take on the Jets? Or would it make more sense to choose one of the other options?” R.J. White of SportsLine, who has won more than 32 units in ATS bets over the past eight years, breaks down top survivor picks for Week 8: Browns at PatriotsSunday 1 p.m. ET on Fox | Stream: Fubo (try for free)
Browns +7: The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, is up well over $7,000 for $100 players on top-rated NFL picks since its inception. It’s surprising that it does not see Drake Maye’s high-level passing as leading to a huge win at home. The model predicts that the Browns (+7.40.5) will cover the New England Patriots in Week 8, noting that over 50% of simulations show Cleveland to be within a touchdown. Visit the SportsLine site for the complete breakdown. Bet on games such as Browns vs. Patriots with BetMGM and get up to $1500 in bonus bets back if your first bet loses.

Eagles -7: The SportsLine Projection Model has scoured all Week 8 odds and locked in five best bets for a parlay that could result in a payout of around 24-1. A free pick is available: the model has the Eagles (+7) covering the Giants (55% of the time) despite New York’s lopsided win over the Birds just two weeks earlier. Bills -7.5: SportsLine’s simulation model is on a sizzling 43-28 run on top-rated picks dating back to 2024. One of SportsLine’s top picks for a five leg parlay is the Bills-Panthers combination to go above the alternate 53.5 point total on Sunday, at +204 odds. Carolina will deploy Andy Dalton as a backup in case Bryce Young is unable to play due to an ankle problem. Check out the full ATS forecast here.Sunday, 1 p.m. on CBS | Stream on Paramount+
Bears +6.5: The SportsLine simulation model can be used to identify safe bets for survivor pools, which call for picking one team to win each week but never using the same team twice. The model does not pick the Ravens (+6.5) this week despite Lamar Jackson returning to practice. Jackson could be unable to perform at his full potential after a hamstring issue that has kept him out for weeks. Also, the Bears have won four straight games. SportsLine’s complete preview is available here.

49ers +1.5 “Didn’t you see the Texans lose to the Seattle Seahawks last Monday night?” This offense was pathetic. Seattle was giving Houston plenty of chances to win but C.J. Stroud was helpless. DeMeco Ryans must have been pulling out his non-existent strands of hair as both a coach and former linebacker. The Texans have a 2-4 ATS record this season while the 49ers have a 4-3 ATS record. San Francisco has also won 4-1 against Houston in all of its history. Houston.” — CBS Sports writer Jordan Dajani on why he likes San Francisco to keep chugging along even while banged up, predicting a 23-17 win by the 49ers.Sunday, 4:05 p.m. on Fox | Stream: Fubo (try for free)
Buccaneers -4.5: “Folks aren’t looking at this as a smash spot for the Bucs for a couple of reasons. They are playing their second road game in a short time after facing the Lions Monday night. Second, they are banged up with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Bucky Irving among the notable pieces sidelined for this NFC South matchup. Despite that, I’ll lay the points. The Saints may have been tough on teams this season, but they’ve hardly delivered where it counts, with a 1-6 straight up record and a 2-5-0 ATS mark. They regularly fall to teams above.500 (6-21 since 2021).” — CBS Sports NFL writer Tyler Sullivan on why he likes Tampa Bay to take care of business in the division, even while severely depleted.Cowboys at BroncosSunday, 4:25 p.m. on CBS | Stream on Paramount+
Cowboys +3.5 “The Broncos average more than 130 rushing yards per game this season, and are among the top five teams in the NFL for rushing yards. [But] It’s impossible to predict what Broncos will be thinking in this game. The Broncos are coming off of one of the most unlikely wins in NFL History — they beat Giants after being down 19-0 at the end of the fourth quarter. When this happens, teams usually react in one of two different ways: they either fall flat on their faces in their next match or they ride the waves of the crazy victory to another crazy win.” CBS Sports NFL Writer John Breech discusses why he believes Denver can edge Dallas at home despite the Cowboys’ high scoring attack.

SportsLine’s Data Science team generates AI Predictions each week, using advanced artificial intelligence techniques and machine learning. The AI prediction is determined by statistically learning each team’s history, and then quantitatively rating the strength of opposition defenses with a number value out 100. After analyzing each game in Week 8, AI predicted that the Colts would cover the Titans’ spread comfortably (-14,47). The AI rated a Colts coverage as “A pick”, and predicted a 36-18 victory on average. Check out the full breakdown here.Sunday, 8:20 p.m. on NBC | Stream: Fubo (try for free)
R.J. White of SportsLine, who is also Fantasy and gambling editor at CBS Sports, has gone 718-623-17 on his ATS predictions from 2017-2024. $100 bettors have earned more than $3200. He is also 47-19 (plus 2439) on his last 65 picks for games that involve the Packers. White, then, is he hoping that Jordan Love and Co. can win a game against the old Packers star Aaron Rodgers at primetime? Does he want Pittsburgh to ruin the night as an underdog at home? Mike Tierney has been a fan of the Washington Commanders for a long time. His last 23 ATS betting bets on Washington have gone 15-9 (+497). What is his prediction for this showdown on Monday night? Can Dan Quinn’s team pull off an upset at Arrowhead despite Washington being without their star quarterback Jayden (hamstring) Daniels? Tierney’s expert matchup breakdown could help the Chiefs to regain the AFC West crown.
