Some rivalries have been forgotten in the wake of the realignment of conferences and the expansion of league schedules. Both Michigan and Notre Dame coaches, Sherrone Moor and Marcus Freeman, have expressed their desire to play each other regularly. The Irish and Wolverines have a home-and-home scheduled for 2033 and 2024.Freeman said, “I remember watching Michigan play Notre Dame when I was a kid.” “That’s a fantastic rivalry. You mention two iconic programs. I’d love to see this happen in the near future. I don’t even know if discussions are taking place. Taylor, now that you’ve said that, I believe it will be on our agenda in 2030. … We need to get it going again.”

Moore was asked to comment on those remarks in his press conference on Monday, and he agreed with Freeman. Moore has said that even with the future series planned, he would still like to be able to play sooner.
Moore replied, “Yeah absolutely.” “Marcus is pretty close. It would be wonderful to see. I’m sure we’re all aligned, but I don’t think it’s until when? Or 2032. We might be able to get it a bit earlier. But we’ll find out. We’re worried about our upcoming game. That’s 100% true. This is a long-standing rivalry, a staple in college football.”Notre Dame first played Michigan in 1887. There were long gaps between the two teams until they started playing each other almost every year in the late 1970s. The Irish and Wolverines played every year from 2002-2014. Their most recent meeting was in 2019.
Michigan has a 25-17-1 advantage against Notre Dame. This record will stay the same until Freeman and Moore are granted their wishes.
