Pacquiao first met Juan Manuel Marquez when they battled for the WBA & IBF featherweight titles in 2004.
‘PacMan’ was looking to capture both titles after having won the Ring featherweight title previously, against Marquez who was coming in on an impressive 13-fight win streak.
Pacquiao knocked down three opponents in the first round, but the fight ended as a tie.
Three years later they met again in a rematch. Pacquiao won the split decision after scoring a knockdown during the third round. This was the deciding factor as the other rounds were all scored equally.
Again three years after their rematch, they met for a third time and again, the result was a huge controversy as Pacquiao was awarded the majority decision win, which was voted ‘Robbery of the Year’ by the Ring Magazine readers.
After all three of the fights had been disappointing, they were scheduled for a quadrilogy a little over a year after that. This time, their result was not controversial.
