The former UFC heavyweight champion hasn’t been discouraged by this loss and already has his next matchup penciled in.

Junior dos Santos and Fabricio Werdum set to complete their trilogy in grappling
On August 8, Junior dos Santos will face Fabricio Werdum in a grappling match at Kings Championship in Florianopolis, Brazil.
The promotion announced the news on May 28, promoting the matchup as the final chapter between two MMA legends.
Dos Santos holds two wins over his fellow former UFC heavyweight champion, with the victories coming 15 years apart.
He beat his fellow Brazilian via TKO at UFC 90 in 2008 before winning a split decision in their bare-knuckle MMA rematch that took place in Jorge Masvidal’s promotion in 2023.

Dos Santos received an indefinite medical suspension pending neurological clearance following his MVP MMA loss.
The 42-year-old was also told by the California State Athletic Commission that he can’t compete for 45 days, with a 30-day suspension from any form of contact without exception.
Werdum’s bare-knuckle loss to ‘JDS’ is the only time he has competed since his final MMA fight in May, 2021.
He was planning to make his return with the GFL last year before the promotion announced that Werdum had made the decision to retire instead.
