Jon Jones clarifies his roster status after Ciryl Gane calls him the ‘best fighter in UFC

Jon Jones remains ready to fight again inside the Octagon.

The relationship between the former two-division champion and Dana White has been fractured this year after he was denied a spot on the upcoming UFC card at the White House.

After being upset by the promoter publicly denying that any negotiations even took place, Jones angrily demanded his UFC release.

But despite even contacting a lawyer to try and escape his contract, Jones does not appear to have written off another UFC fight entirely.

Jon Jones reveals he is open to a UFC return while reacting to ex-rival Ciryl Gane’s high praise

During the broadcast of MVP MMA 1 on Netflix in May, Jones hinted at chasing the Francis Ngannou fight outside of the UFC.

The Rochester native has also teased a potential boxing venture, as he continues to discuss the possibility of forcing his way out of the UFC.

But after UFC Freedom 250 star Ciryl Gane named Jones the “best fighter in the UFC right now” during an interview with TNT Sports, the GOAT contender clarified that he remains a ready and willing-to-compete fighter in the sport’s leading organization.

“Still on the roster, still capable of making the biggest fights on the globe,” Jones wrote on his Instagram Stories.

“I appreciate you keeping it real,” he added, responding to Gane’s pick.

Jones submitted Gane at UFC 285 in 2023. That marked the second of the Frenchman’s three failed attempts to become undisputed heavyweight champion and saw ‘Bones’ achieve two-division glory.

‘Bon Gamin’ will look to earn a fourth opportunity by regaining interim status on Sunday, when he will fight Alex Pereira, the man who Jones was targeting earlier this year.

Despite calling for a fight at the event ever since it was first announced by United States President Donald Trump last summer, Jones will have to watch Sunday’s card on the White House lawn from home.
