It’s too early to determine whether Travis Hunter will continue to play on both sides of the ball, Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen said Wednesday.Hunter had season-ending surgery Tuesday to repair a ligament in his right knee and is expected to return to the football field within six months. He hurt his knee in a practice drill that was not part of a contract last month.Coen said that it was premature to speculate whether Hunter would be able to play cornerback and receiver in 2026. “At the end of the day, like every player on this roster, he’ll be evaluated at the end of the season, and we’ll be able to give him his three better, three best and the things that we need to continue to improve upon and the things we need to build on.Hunter was coming off of a career-best performance in London prior to his injury. The Jaguars (5-4), the team that won the Heisman Trophy in 2024, were going to use the Colorado native as their number one receiver. He caught 8 passes for 101 yard and a score against the Los Angeles Rams. The Jaguars (5-4) were planning to use him as their No. 1 receiver in the future, hoping to minimize drops. Hunter has never looked like the man James Gladstone claimed could “alter sport itself” as a first-time GM. Hunter wasn’t the team’s top cornerback or receiver. And Jacksonville traded two premium picks in order to move him up three positions and select him as second overall. The Jaguars swapped first round spots with the Cleveland Browns by trading a 2025 first rounder and a 2026 second-rounder. Hunter played a total of 486 snaps, 324 on offense. He played 67% downs for that side. He played 162 snaps in defense and was on the pitch 36% of the game. He had 15 tackles, and three pass defences.”Also, looking at. ‘OK, where do we need him most, in more ways than others,’” Coen said. The whole thing has been an experiment in learning. But getting to know the person has obviously been the most important thing and the type of competitor, the way that he learns, the way that he competes, the way that he practices, that’s stuff that we’ve been able to gain valuable information on and be able to use moving forward and actually put in a continued practice.Want to receive great stories straight into your inbox? “Reporting from The Associated Press.
