Tom Aspinall is edging closer to an eagerly anticipated return to the Octagon.
The UFC heavyweight champion hasn’t fought since his first title defense ended in a no-contest last October.
Ciryl Gane‘s double eye poke left Tom Aspinall unable to continue at UFC 321. Since then, the English knockout artist has undergone surgery on both of his eyes, which will need to be given the all-clear by doctors before he can fight again.

Tom Aspinall provided a positive update about his MMA return in a recent YouTube video.
“I’ve had a scan,” he said on Sunday.
Things are progressing f—ing nicely, which I’m very happy about.
“They are saying, pretty soon, if things keep moving in the right direction, I will be cleared for contact.
“I am back in the gym. I am back training. No sparring just yet.”
“If things keep going the way they are going, we are back.”
Tom Aspinall’s comeback fight
Tom Aspinall’s injury-induced absence forced the UFC to create an interim heavyweight title.
Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane will compete for the secondary belt in the UFC White House co-main event on June 14.
Aspinall says the UFC has told him he will face the winner of that fight in a unification bout.
“Alex and Ciryl have to fight for the interim title,” he added.
“I’m obviously going to fight the winner. The UFC have told me I’m fighting the winner.
“I have to wait for that to be done, and we fight the winner.”
“No specific month, Aspinall responded when asked about his comeback date.
“I’m waiting to get clearance, which is going to be coming soon, they’ve just told me.
“Any specific month depends on the UFC. Those other two have got to fight each other.
“Let them do their thing, recover from that, and when everybody is ready, we’ll do it.”
