Giannis Antetokounmpo injury: Bucks star exits game vs. Pistons amid trade rumors

MILWAUKEE — After a full day of trade rumors, there are more immediate concerns about the future of Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo after he collapsed with a non-contact injury minutes into the team’s 113-109 win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night. Antetokounmpo was diagnosed with a right-calf strain by the Bucks and did not return to play. Doc Rivers, Bucks’ coach, did not provide an update after the game on Antetokounmpo’s condition. However he did state that the medical staff had “ruled out an Achilles injury.” “He’s having an MRI, so hopefully we’ll find out more by the weekend.” [Wednesday night],” Rivers said. I didn’t even know what was wrong. I only wanted him to be treated by the trainers. “Right when they brought him into the room, they took him straight to hospital.” Antetokounmpo scored an easy layup just three minutes and thirty seconds into the first period. He drove down the baseline, found AJ Green who was cutting, and then drove up the court. He fell as he was about to run up the court and motioned for help. He remained on the floor, seated, until Kevin Porter Jr. was fouled to end play.

Antetokounmpo regained his balance and was able walk off the field on his own. He sat down on the bench initially, but made his move to the locker rooms later. Footage of the Bucks broadcast showed him slowly walking down the tunnel by himself. Antetokounmpo’s initial reaction to the injury was alarming. It is too early to tell how long he will be out, but it is still too soon to predict. To determine the extent of his injury, he will have to undergo imaging. It is a serious blow to the Bucks, who, despite their win on Wednesday, are still 2-5 in their absence this season. They have also slipped down to 10th position in Eastern Conference with 10-13.
