This week, a fighter went to extremes in order to earn a chance at the UFC.
Last weekend at UFC 322, one of the biggest surprises of the night came in Ethyn Ewing’s upset win over Malcolm Wellmaker on the prelims.
The debutant took the fight on just days’ notice only one week after he became the A1 Combat Bantamweight champ with a win in the first round.
While Ewing has since returned to his day job following a breakthrough performance, he’s one of the best recent examples of a fighter capitalizing on an opportunity.
A fighter wanted to make sure he was prepared for UFC Qatar’s fight week.

Justin Burlinson claimed he might be homeless if he loses his job after taking a shot at an UFC match on short notice
Waldo Cortes Acosta and all athletes on the UFC Qatar card successfully made weight on Friday for their late-notice fight.
While that’s good news for the fans who are looking forward to the action on Saturday night, it wasn’t what UFC hopeful Justin Burlinson wanted to hear.
The reigning Cage Warriors welterweight champion’s only career defeats have come against UFC veteran Rhys McKee and Yohan Lainesse, who beat him on Dana White’s Contender Series back in November of 2021.
What makes Burlinson’s story even more remarkable is that before he returned to the cage in November of last year, he overcame testicular cancer and a significant knee injury.
