After global strife postponed its original date, the secondary title bout featuring David Jimenez and Ayumu Sano has been rescheduled for May 24 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Jimenez, 18-1 (12 KOs), was originally supposed to defend his WBA interim junior-bantamweight belt against Sano, 11-0-1 (5 KOs), on April 19 as part of a three-day boxing event in Kyrgyzstan.
But the shows were called off two weeks beforehand. The promoter – 3150Fights, run by retired former titleholder Koki Kameda – cited “the rapid changes in the current international situation and the various impacts that come with them”.
The three-day event also would have included a junior-featherweight fight between Luis Nery and John Riel Casimero, as well as a featherweight bout between Adrian Maximiliano Robledo and Kyonosuke Kameda, who is Koki’s cousin.
While Nery-Casimero hasn’t been rescheduled, Kyonosuke, 16-5-2 (9 KOs), will be competing on May 24. But he has a new opponent for what will be an interim WBA featherweight title bout.
Kameda is ranked 11th by the sanctioning body. The primary title belongs to Brandon Figueroa, who toppled Nick Ball in February. Kameda will face Luis Reynaldo Nunez, 23-0 (15 KOs), who is ninth with the WBA.
This will become a two-day event, according to 3150Fights. Bouts for the first day, May 23, have not yet been announced.
