    Conor McGregor’s coach threatened to end his fighting career in dramatic ultimatum before

    Conor McGregor’s career had barely started when it almost fizzled out.

    While recent years have seen an inactive McGregor remain in the headlines for ventures and controversies away from the Octagon, not many have enjoyed a fighting prime like the Irishman did.

    After a strong start in the UFC, ‘The Notorious’ went on to capture both the featherweight and lightweight titles, becoming the promotion’s first simultaneous two-division champion en route to standing head and shoulders above the rest as the sport’s biggest star.

    That success has brought McGregor unrivaled wealth and fame in mixed martial arts, but he almost got in his own way years before forging a path to the top in the UFC.

    Coach John Kavanagh told Conor McGregor his career was over if he did not turn up for training

    McGregor knocked out Dennis Siver in his second UFC main event, a result that kickstarted a 2015 that would conclude with the Irishman having the undisputed featherweight title wrapped around his waist.

    A few days on from that result in Boston, coach John Kavanagh revealed to the Irish Mirror how close McGregor’s career came to ending before it had even begun.

    ‘The Notorious’ may have been looking at a much different life if he did not give a positive response to Kavanagh’s ultimatum, which came after McGregor’s mother expressed concern over her son’s decision to stop training and going to the gym.
