Joe Fagnano, the UConn quarterback, did something that no other college quarterback had accomplished since 2019. He led his Huskies team to a win of 37-34 over Duke. In his fifth consecutive game he passed 250 yards and threw at least three touchdowns, all without an interception. Joe Burrow played at LSU. Fagnano joins a select group of quarterbacks who have thrown 25 touchdowns with no interceptions. He will face Air Force this week. Fagnano’s prolific production has given UConn a shot at 10 wins, a first for an FBS team. He isn’t the only quarterback outside of the Power Four to be on the rise. Jake Retzlaff from Tulane and Byrum brown of South Florida, both American Conference stars, have risen to the top 10 following impressive performances in crucial games. Alonza Barrnett of James Madison is not far behind, ranking at No. After another impressive performance by the Dukes, they are ranked 12th. These rankings do not represent a Heisman prediction, draft project or season outlook. The rankings are a live evaluation of performance. They take into consideration competition, production, and pressure. The power rankings this week are for the top 50 quarterbacks in college football.
1. Joe Fagnano – UConnFagnano led UConn in a 37 to 34 win over Duke last week. He became the third quarterback to achieve 25 touchdowns without an interception since 25 years. The veteran Maine quarterback is the first since Joe Burrow who has had 250+ passing yards, at least three passing touchdowns and not an interception in five consecutive games. Last week: 102. Julian Sayin, Ohio StateSayin’s 27 out of 33 performance during Ohio State’s easy win against Purdue was yet another impressive performance from the redshirt freshmen. The only thing that was not perfect about his performance was a sloppy interception in the endzone, which he would love to get back. Sayin’s completion rate of 80.9% leads the nation. Last week: 13 Haynes King (Georgia Tech)Georgia Tech just had a bye week, which is a big deal for King. Few quarterbacks take more hits than the veteran Texas A&M transfer. King is second in the country for rushing touchdowns, but can also throw it. In the loss to NC State in November, he surpassed 400 yards of passing. Last week:
4. Fernando Mendoza (Indiana)Mendoza’s bad interception set up Penn State for the go-ahead touchdown at the end of the fourth quarter. The comeback that followed, however, was stunning. The Cal transfer led a 80-yard touchdown in the final 2 minutes, highlighted by two ridiculous catches. This kept Indiana unbeaten. Last week: 35. Ty Simpson (Alabama)Simpson did not have his best stuff during Alabama’s 20-9 victory over LSU but he was able to get the job done. Since the beginning of the season, he has not been intercepted. Last week, 56. Jake Retzlaff (Tulane)Retzlaff led Tulane to an important 38-32 victory at Memphis, thanks to his legendary heater. Brown is fourth in total offense for a game with 323.1 yard. Last week: 168. Mason Heintschel – PittHeintschel’s a 5-0 starter for Pitt and has produced impressive numbers, particularly for a true freshmen. However, the five victories were against weak competition. Diego Pavia (Vanderbilt)Pavia contributed 489 yards of Vanderbilt’s 544 in the 45-38 overtime win over Auburn. Pavia’s 377 passing yards marked a new career high, while his 112 rushing yard total was the most he had ever accumulated in a Vanderbilt game. Vanderbilt will host Kentucky next weekend, and Pavia is likely to surpass Jay Cutler’s record for the most total offensive yards in a single season. Last week: 11
10. Marcel Reed, Texas A&MReed navigated Texas A&M’s odd stretch of three straight SEC road games with a smooth touch, totaling 10 touchdowns while helping the Aggies reach 9-0. Trinidad Chambliss (Ole Miss)If you subtract Chambliss’ two garbage-time appearances before he was given the starting position, he leads the nation in offensive totals. 16. CJ Carr, Notre DameCarr is eligible for the draft after 2026. The redshirt freshman could be remembered as one the greatest Notre Dame quarterbacks if he sticks around for 2027 and 2028.
