Canelo Alvarez set to challenge undefeated world champion in ‘done deal’ return bout

Canelo Alvarez’s comeback trail begins here following his third career defeat.

Alvarez lost his undisputed super middleweight status to Terence Crawford last September in a fight that created some new questions.

The Mexican superstar may be the younger of the two men, but some wondered whether this clear defeat was the result of a decline.

After Alvarez was forced to turn down a vacant title fight earlier this year due to some injuries, his return is now official, and it will be Christian M’billi standing in the opposite corner.

Canelo Alvarez vs Christian M’Billi a done deal for WBC super middleweight title bout

Turki Alalshikh announced in January that Canelo Alvarez would be making his return on September 12 in a world title fight that will take place in Saudi Arabia.

It has now been reported by The Ring’s Mike Coppinger on X that it’s a done deal that the Mexican superstar will be challenging Christian M’billi for the WBC super middleweight title.

Alvarez won this belt back in 2020 when he defeated Callum Smith before losing it to Terence Crawford at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas last year.

Fans who tuned in to watch Alvarez’s last fight will likely already be familiar with M’Billi due to him also featuring on the card.

The undefeated 31-year-old went to a draw with Lester Martinez in a show-stealing battle over ten rounds that saw him retain the interim WBC super middleweight title before he was promoted.

This is undoubtedly the biggest opportunity of his career to date and with Alvarez being honest about how he fell short in September, this may have come at the perfect time for M’Billi.
