If you were hoping that another Ole Miss Rebel could head north and be the next head of the New York Giants you may not have a chance. There has always been the question of who would fill in for Brian Daboll if New York (2-8-1) were to let him go. Due to the rise of Jaxson as a franchise quarterback, many people have decided to give Lane Kiffin a phone call to find out if he wants to reunite with him and return to NFL. Brandon Dart said it was not realistic to have a reunion with Jaxson Dart. As we were texting in our Kiffin-Dart text thread because Boomer Esiason said something today in the media that they might throw out a possible coaching (offer) for Kiffin, he sent it with a smile and said, “It’s just too cold in New York.” Brandon Dart said, “It’s kind of funny” on the podcast “Bleav in Ole Miss”, via the New York Post.
Jaxson has high regard for him, but we also have weekly interactions with his family. I believe Kiffin is his closest ally, and he relies on him in many different ways for advice. There’s a constant communication between the two, even today. We couldn’t have asked for more of a special relationship between our son and his coach, so we are very, very thankful for coach Kiff.”
Kiffin was Dart’s coach for three years while at Ole Miss. During his senior year in 2024, the quarterback threw for 4,279 yard and 29 touchdowns with a completion rate of 69.3%. It was his tutelage that helped him to become the first-round draft pick in the NFL Draft of 2025. New York should check if he is interested, considering the close connection they have. Kiffin’s weather may be an issue, but so too is the current state of college football. Kiffin could be in the running for several high-profile coaching jobs, including those at LSU, Penn State and Florida. He could simply stay at Ole Miss. The Rebels are currently in contention to win the College Football Playoff.
Daboll is on the hot seat right now, even if Kiffin was a longshot. New York, which is 2-8 in the NFC East and on a losing streak of four games, finds itself dead last after Week 10. The Giants’ losing streak also includes a 33 to 32 loss to the Broncos during Week 7 when they allowed Denver to score those points with a furious fourth-quarter rally. Daboll’s 20-40-1 record in 61 games as the Giants’ head coach could force John Mara to make a switch if he doesn’t start showing signs of improvement before the end of the regular season. If the change doesn’t go to someone like Kiffin, then let’s look at three other options.
Jesse MinterCurrent position: Defensive Coordinator, Los Angeles ChargersOwnerships and fans might want a offensive-minded coach who can cater to Dart’s development. But don’t forget about a guy like Jesse Minter. New York has made significant investments in the defensive line, including signing Dexter Lawrence on a long-term contract and selecting Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thbodeaux among the top five NFL Draft picks. Minter’s leadership could help this unit become the best of the NFL. Dart and his offense would benefit from that. Minter has been the defensive coordinator of the University of Michigan, and he followed Jim Harbaugh, the Los Angeles Chargers, in the same position. Minter has led some of the most dominant defenses. The Chargers were ranked No. 1 in 2024. In 2024 the Chargers were ranked No. The Washington Commanders will be No.6 in the league (entering week 10) in terms of yards allowed. Kliff KingsburyCurrent position: Offensive Co-ordinator, Washington CommandersLast season, we saw the former Lions’ offensive coordinator Ben Johnson take a job as the head coach of the division in Chicago. Kingsbury, who has worked wonders with the Commanders’ offense and a young Jayden Daniels, could provide a similar boost for Dart in New York. In addition to being one of NFL’s top offensive minds, Kingsbury has head coaching experience. He led the Arizona Cardinals in 2019-2022. Kingsbury’s record was 28-37-1, with an 11-6 mark in 2021.
Klint KubicakCurrent Role: Offensive Coordinator, Seattle SeahawksKubiak will be a hot name in this year’s hiring process, after turning the Seattle Seahawks into one of league’s best offenses. Sam Darnold has played at an MVP level for the past 10 weeks and is averaging a 9.6 yard average per pass attempt. Jaxon Smith Njigba is the NFL’s leading receiver with 948 receiving yards and is on track to become its first 2,000-yard player. Could he create a similar effect with Dart and Malik Nabers, if he is healthy?
