Ex-WBA champion who beat James Toney explains what separates him from

Former boxing world champion who has 38 professional bouts under his belt makes the switch.

Recent times have seen several experienced boxers, who have achieved success on the highest levels of the sport, test the waters with bare-knuckle fighting.

In September, former Olympic gold medallist James DeGale made a chaotic BKFC debut. Four points were taken away from each fighter over five rounds.

Paulie Malignaggi, the former world champion in two weight classes, overcame an horrific cut during his BKB competition last month.

On November 22, another ex-champion wants to show why he’s different to the others when he fights for BKB’s heavyweight title.

Lucas Browne isn’t trying to prove how tough he is by fighting in bare knuckle

Lucas Browne didn’t intend on competing in bare knuckle boxing until an opportunity fell into his lap.

On November 22 in Florida, he’ll challenge heavyweight champion, Gustavo Trujillo, at BKB 48 after signing to the promotion earlier this year.

Browne’s professional boxing record is 31-7. He has won big fights against Hall of Famer James Toney, and Ruslan Chagagaev who he defeated to win the WBA Heavyweight Title in 2016.

‘Big Daddy’ recently previewed his upcoming title fight in an exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow where he spoke about his transition to bare knuckle boxing.

When speaking about boxers who have made similar moves, he explained why he believes some have more success than others and why he’s approaching the sport with a different mentality.

“It’s styles. If you want the self preservation aspect, it’s very much an amateur style, in and out, in and out. I don’t want to stand in the pocket because I’m going to get hit. Why would you want to get hit with knuckles? Someone like [Paulie] Malignaggi and obviously other guys who have fought, they stand in that pocket and are like, ‘Let’s see how tough we are’. I’m not that silly. I’m not doing that.”
