The likely College of Education candidate is 7 Ole Miss Football Since October, Keith Carter, Ole Miss’ athletic director has stated that the school is considering a Curt Cignetti type deal to keep Kiffin at Oxford. Kiffin’s future is in doubt until he signs the extension. Behind closed doors, Ole Miss must be concerned. The coach who brought the team to this point could be looking at Florida. It’s the slow-bleeding nature of the situation that hurts.
Nothing about Saturday night seemed right for the Rebels. Ole Miss could not find second gear when facing a Florida team that was coming off of a 31-point defeat at Kentucky. It was a game of red-zone mistakes, an interception that almost led to a touchdown, and a 10-point advantage that disappeared in two minutes thanks to the touchdown runs of DJ Lagway. It’s obvious that he didn’t. His looseness in public is not helping a team that has national title ambitions stay focused on their end game.
Kiffin dismissed much of Florida’s talk during the Week 12 pre-season, and instead laid out his criteria on what makes a position a college football “blue blood”.People will say the field has narrowed. Some stuff is narrowed as you can’t store up. [talent] Kiffin added. “But you still have to struggle against them in some things, because they are recruited and see the stadiums, tradition, Heismans, and national championships. Your location will also affect your talent. I think they are all there.”How many of these boxes does Ole Miss fill?Losses against Kentucky and Florida kept Ole Miss outside of last year’s postseason push. And before that, an errant stumble at LSU 2022 started a late-season fall.
How long will Florida have to wait for an answer, with the Early Signing Period and portal priorities approaching? Both programs are looking for clarity. The only one that still has a meaningful goal to aim for is the other. At this point, prolonging the game serves no one.
