Hannah Hidalgo continued her stellar start to the junior season on Wednesday. The star of Notre Dame scored 44 points, had nine boards, four assist and 16 steals as she won 85-58 over Akron. Her 16 steals were a D-I record, and her 44 point total was a Notre Dame school record. Hidalgo’s unbelievable performance had college fans in awe. Hidalgo enjoyed a stellar first two years at Notre Dame. Among many other honors, she was named to the First Team All-American twice. It appears that this year she’s found a whole new gear. Hidalgo has scored 34.3 points per match in her first three games, which is the highest mark of any player in the country. She’s not going to be able score 40 points night after night but she is clearly one of college basketball’s best scorers this year. Notre Dame has been a leader in women’s college basketball for many years. They reached the national championship six times from 2011 to 2019. Fighting Irish won the championship in 2018. In recent years, however, the Fighting Irish have struggled to achieve those heights. They failed to make it past the Sweet 16 each of the four previous seasons. Hidalgo may be the star that propels Notre Dame back to the top.
