How JuJu Watkins is mentoring USC freshman Jazzy Davidson from the sidelines

Jazzy Davidson is a freshman at USC and the third-ranked player in class 2025 according to 247Sports. She is naturally shy and reserved. 247Sports ranks Jazzy Davidson No. 3 in the class 2025. She is a naturally reserved and shy person. Lindsay Gottlieb encourages her, however, to develop a friendship with JuJu Watkins junior because she sees an uncanny resemblance in the two Trojans. Gottlieb stated, “She and JuJu are very similar to me from my perspective, as I have a special relationship with both of them. “Natural introverts that live and die for the game of Basketball. Jazzy was recruited by JuJu, and Jazzy wanted her to be on the court with JuJu. This year, it will be different because Juju won’t play with Jazzy, but… no one understands what Jazzy is about to experience as a high profile freshman like JuJu. This relationship is very important to me and I believe it’s good.”Watkins is not playing this year due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He was one of the top two players in the country for the last two seasons. She came to USC as No. She arrived at USC as the No. The Trojans must adjust to life without their star offensive player, Kiki Iriafen. She is now in WNBA.

While Watkins cannot be replaced, Davidson has the potential to make a positive impact on a team that is in rebuilding mode. The 6-foot-1-inch forward averaged 28.5, 8.7 rebounds per game, along with 3.6 assissted, 3.8 thefts and two blocks. She was also a member of Team USA for the FIBA U19 World Cup.
Davidson was introduced to Watkins by Watkins, who hosted her during a USC campus visit. She missed a few practices recently due to illness, but she is ready for the Trojans season opener on November 4 against New Mexico State. Davidson spent a lot of time with Watkins during her absence.

Gottlieb remembered that Jazzy was not going to participate in the game because she had just returned to playing. “But, I came out from somewhere, and saw the two of them in their sweatsuits, getting ready not to play. I thought, ‘This must be an interesting sight.’ Such talent sat on the side. But I also believe it was good. You know, it’s obvious that any time spent together will sharpen their iron. JuJu is a great coach for Jazzy. Both are introverts by nature, both are hard workers, and they’re just kind and humble children who happen to be good at basketball.”While Gottlieb is vocal about Davidson’s potential to influence the game on both ends of the court and how she can impact it, she loves the way the freshman plays.

The coach remarked, “Her level of effort is exceptional.” “She is never discouraged, whether it’s offensively or defensively. She can play with a lot of confidence and be aggressive, shooting the ball well. But she can also be fluid and move off the ball to draw away defenses and give others more space to score. She is someone who makes it easier for others to play.”USC’s been on a rise and the Trojans just had back-toback appearances at the Elite Eight. Watkins was the star of the show, but Gottlieb wanted to ensure that Davidson didn’t feel like she had to be perfect.Gottlieb stated, “I think JuJu will be able to mentor her in this way.” “JuJu has had one of my most memorable freshmen years, but it doesn’t always mean that everything is linear. This doesn’t mean everything was perfect. This does not mean there were no struggles.

“I believe that great athletes and players at all levels are more concerned with how they handle the situation and react when things don’t go as planned than if everything is perfect. Her teammates and we (coaches), are helping her to navigate what’s coming. I think she will be fine.
