New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo suffered a dislocated ankle in Sunday’s 38-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and the team announced that he is scheduled to undergo surgery Sunday night in Philadelphia but did not offer a timeline for his recovery.Skattebo was carted off the field with an air cast on his left leg with 8:07 left in the first half after he was rolled up on during a tackle. Skattebo had three carries of 12 yards, and caught a 18-yard touchdown. Skattebo has had a stellar debut season. Skattebo, a product of Arizona State, was an exciting prospect for the Giants, as he formed a dynamic backfield with Jaxson Dart.

Tyrone Tracy Jr., the next player in the backfield, is likely to take over the role he played at the start of the season as long Skattebo stays on the sidelines.
Skattebo’s first seven games in the NFL saw him rack up 398 rushing yards and five touchdowns. He also had 189 receiving yards and one score. He was one of Giants’ most potent weapons since he jumped in the starting lineup just three weeks into his campaign. Skattebo’s three-touchdown performance against the Eagles in October was a high point for what appears to be an incredibly successful career. He was a contender for the NFL Offensive Rookie Of The Year Award but is now out of contention. FanDuel gave him +3000 odds of winning the award in Week 8. His outstanding debut season is part and parcel of a stellar year for NFL rookies. Skattebo was the rookie leader with 587 yards of scrimmage through seven games. He was also one of only three rookies who reached 500 yards. In contrast, only one rookie player reached that milestone through the first seven weeks of last season.
Skattebo is one of the best steals in the NFL Draft of 2025. Skattebo was selected in the fourth round, but he outperformed all other rookies in terms of total yards before his injury. Skattebo has been a star at all positions for years. He was a finalist for the Heisman trophy at Arizona State last season and came in fifth place. This is two years after he excelled at Sacramento State, where he was an FCS All-American.
