18-fight UFC veteran Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson has highlighted when and where he the final fight of his career to take place.
The former UFC welterweight title challenger hasn’t fought since last July when he lost a split decision against surging contender, Gabriel Bonfim.
That marked the 43-year-old’s third loss in a row and his fifth loss in his last six fights, as his career comes towards a disappointing end.
And now after over a year out of action, Stephen Thompson has revealed where and when he wants to make his final appearance in the promotion.
Thompson wants final UFC appearance at Madison Square Garden
Following his loss against Bonfim, ‘Wonderboy’ received support from his UFC boss Dana White who said he hopes the former title challenger doesn’t retire after that fight.
Despite that, Thompson stated that he would like to make the final fight of his UFC career on the UFC White House event, but he was snubbed of a place on that card.
And now, the 43-year-old has revealed that he only has one fight left on his deal, with it being unlikely that he will sign an extension.
With that, ‘Wonderboy’ has highlighted an event at Madison Square Garden as his ideal retirement venue.
“I’m in talks with the UFC right now, and we’re looking at Madison Square Garden in November, so back at MSG, I love fighting at MSG,” Thompson told Home of Fight.
“That is the plan, Madison Square Garden, November 14. I’ve got one fight left on my contract and we’ll see who we get. We’re trying to find a good barnburner to go out with a bang,” he continued.

Thompson has fought at MSG three times in the past, with his first fight in the iconic venue being his UFC 205 title fight against Tyron Woodley on Conor McGregor‘s undercard.
It’s been over a year since the oldest fighter on the UFC roster was ranked, and it is unlikely that he fights inside the rankings for the final fight of his UFC tenure.
