Why Michigan State Has to Vacate Wins from Mel Tucker Era After NCAA Ruling

Michigan State is forced to void 14 victories after the NCAA ruled that former general manager Saeed Khlif and former Assistant Coach Brandon Jordan had violated recruiting regulations between 2021-2023. The NCAA also said former head coach Mel Tucker took a “hands-off” approach to compliance, and didn’t promote a culture in which staff felt comfortable approaching him with concerns or reporting potential violations.Michigan State was ordered to void all victories “in which ineligible students-athletes” participated. MSU’s spokesperson confirmed this to Chris Solari, Detroit Free Press. This included all victories between 2022-2024. The spokesman confirmed that the ineligible player(s) are not at MSU during the 2025-2026 season.Michigan State must now undergo three years probation and pay a fine of 1.5 percent of its football budget plus $30,000. However, we also recognize opportunities for further modernization.”NCAA bylaws prohibit providing transportation to prospects or their travel companions during an unofficial visit, outside of rides to nearby facilities. Travel expenses for enrollment are limited to picking up prospects at the nearest station or airport. According to the NCAA’s report, Khalif, Jordan, and other MSU staff spent about $10,764 for “impermissible recruiter inducements” towards six prospects who were making unofficial trips. Khalif then spent another $3.075 for flying in three prospective Spartans to enroll. Michigan State had a 14-22 record during this time span. MSU has a current six-game losing streak. The Spartans return to the field Saturday at home against Penn State.
