Della Maddalena was able to avoid six takedowns, and reduce Belal Muhammad’s time on the ground in order to win the UFC welterweight crown. Della Maddalena was unable to do much more against Makhachev than just survive. She did not stop a takedown and spent over 19 minutes of their 25 minute fight on the ground.”He took him down openly and wouldn’t allow him to get out of the half guard. This requires an understanding of body awareness, which is not common among fighters.
