U.S. Men’s Team Duo Ricardo Pepi, Folarin Balogun Score in Champions League

Pepi, who was brought on to replace Balogun in the PSV Eindhoven match in stoppage time, scored a goal in extra time that earned a 1-1 tie with Olympiakos. Pepi’s free kick helped his Dutch side earn a draw against Olympiakos in the dying minutes of the match. Pepi is in great form in the Dutch Eredivisie, with three goals in four games and five in 11 overall. Balogun scored the sole goal in Monaco’s Champions League win over Norwegian team Bodo/Glimt. Balogun scored in the 43rd minutes after sneaking past the opponent’s defense. Balogun is now up to four goals across all competitions in just nine games for the Ligue 1 team. Pepi also has four in 13 appearances. Pepi hasn’t played for the U.S. in almost a year following knee surgery and still remains limited in his minutes with PSV. Balogun, however, is the current frontrunner to be the USMNT striker after his impressive performances in October and September. Pochettino will likely call him up for the U.S. squad in November later this week. USMNT is back in action this month, with two friendlies. The first will be against Paraguay, on November 15 in Chester Pennsylvania, and the second on November 18 in Tampa, Florida, both in Tampa. Want to receive great stories in your email? To receive personalized daily newsletters, create or log into your FOX Sports Account and follow teams, leagues and players!
