Joe Root, the second highest-scoring Test cricketer in history, was called ‘Average Joe” by the West Australian after he arrived for England’s Ashes tour. Sachin Tendulkar of India (15921) is the only one with more test runs. However, the West Australian’s frontpage focused on Root’s modest record Down Under.
Root has yet to reach a Test century in Australia. His best knock in three tours, two of which he led, was the 89 that he scored in the series in Brisbane in 2021/22.
