British boxing has suffered a blow after well-thought of manager and promoter Steve Goodwin announced he would be stepping away from the sport.
Goodwin and his family have had an important 16-year involvement on the domestic scene and the family run team has focused on small hall boxing, mostly in London and at Bethnal Green’s York Hall.
The idea was to stage one show in 2010, and it led to a 16-year span with Steve working closely with daughter Olivia and son Josh.
They worked with David Haye for his comeback bouts at the O2 Arena and have always taken pride in working with fighters at all levels.
“We have had a great run,” said Steve Goodwin. “The sport has given us so much and I like to think we have given back. We perhaps never got the opportunities that we deserved to take our product to a bigger platform but that’s okay. What is more important is the lives we have helped through the sport, the relationships we have built and the memories we have made for ourselves and also for the thousands of people who have paid the money to come to our shows. We hope they all enjoyed them as much as us and continue to support the sport and the boxers on their journeys.”Goodwin said he will continue to work with a handful of boxers with their contracts if they need help, but added: “It is the right time to leave. I have a thriving financial advisory company, which has always been by day-to-day business and has enabled us to pursue our love for boxing, and our family is expanding. I look forward to the time I will get back to spend more time with my wife and family and devote to my other passions in life.
“[I] want to thank all the good people we have collaborated [with] in the sport. For us now the show is over.”
