Ranking the seven craziest moments from Dodgers’ epic World Series Game 7 win

Los Angeles Dodgers have won the World Series. Again. The team has become the first Major League Baseball champion to win a second time since 2000. They trailed throughout most of the Game 7 after having won Game 6 to force a game 7. Even by the World Series Game 7 standard, what we saw in Game 7 was insane. It was impossible to feel what we felt watching the game live unless you watched it. Box scores don’t really do justice to the play we witnessed. Here are some wild and crazy plays that you have to witness to believe. The rankings will be subjective, so people are free to disagree. It’s not like they are definitive. Unranked (weird Division)There was an almost-fight. This is in quotes, because there wasn’t a fight. However, benches clearing in Game 7 is rare these days. George Springer’s liner to Justin Wrobleski was met with a funny reaction from the crowd.
Unranked (honorable mention division) Max Muncy’s home run in the top of the eighth cut the Blue Jays’ lead to one at a time when it felt like the rest of the game might be a formality. What was the deal with George Springer’s steal of second in first inning, when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. struck out looking? And then Springer got thrown out without even looking as if he were running hard to second? Bo Bichette played with a knee injury. Bichette would have normally been able score when Ernie Clement hit a single in the second inning. However, they held him at third. The Blue Jays loaded the bases. In the top sixth inning, two Dodgers runners were on the field with no one out. Teoscar Hernández hit a comebacker to Blue Jays reliever Chris Bassitt, who went to second to get a force out in hopes of turning a double play. The Dodgers then followed up with a sac-fly, putting a runner at third with only one out. What if Bassitt had cut down the lead-runner? OK, let’s move on. World Series Game 7: The Top Seven MomentsWe are going to mash a few of these moments together to make it into seven. While basking in the glory of an amazing series, and an all-time great game 7, we can break some rules.

    7. Blue Jays’ legacy is important to them. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is well-known, and many people know Bo Bichette’s father Dante. Do you know Daulton Varsho’s dad Gary, who played as a backup infielder at the MLB level for many years?
The Dodgers found themselves in a 3-0 deficit after they had dealt with a home run that put them in a hole of three runs. Hernández sent a shot to center field that could have gotten by Varsho, but Varsho snared the diving catch. The play scored only one run but it could have been much worse. Guerrero dived to catch a rocket that Tommy Edman launched down the first-base line. This ended the Blue Jays’ threat and gave them a 3-1 lead. Bichette’s monster homerBichette had not hit a homer since Sept. 2, and had missed much of the playoffs because of a knee injury. As noted above, he was clearly hobbled. He still smashed a three run home run against Shohei Ohtani in the third inning to give the Blue Jays the 3-0 lead that they would nearly hold on to win the World Series. This home run was one of many things that made the game so amazing.

    5. Rojas’s play at the plateWithin the bottom ninth inning of a tied game, the Blue Jays were in a position where they had all the bases and one out. Daulton Vassho grounded a ball to second, and the Dodgers couldn’t turn a double. Miguel Rojas was playing the game as a defensive player and made a good catch on Varsho’s grounder. However, Miguel Rojas had to run home quickly, so it ended up with a bang. It also appeared that Will Smith, the catcher, had his foot off home plate just a moment before he got back on to record the out. Video review confirmed the play.
    4. Pages’ catchManHow the hell does this No. 4? This was the play that followed No. 5. No, let me rephrase. The next pitch was after our No. 5 play. Ernie Clement was the offensive star of this series. He sent a shot deep left-center, which looked like a walk-off win. Dodgers left fielder Kiké Hernández was in hot pursuit of the ball, as was center fielder Andy Pages — who was a defensive replacement just two hitters before and wasn’t even their best defensive center fielder available — ended up making a jumping catch while running into Hernández to force extra innings.
    3. Will Smith’s shining momentSmith hit a home run in the Game 2 of the Series and caught every inning. Remember that Smith caught 18 innings of Game 3, and then he continued to catch every inning on the next day. He hit a home run to left-field off Blue Jays reliever Shane Bieber in Game 7. It turned out to win the series.

    2. Miguel Rojas’ home runAs mentioned above, Rojas had been in the game to play defense. He wasn’t a regular starter during this series. In the regular-season, he only had seven homers. His only home run was against a lefty. His last home run was on September 19. Jeff Hoffman, Blue Jays closer, got Shohei Otani and Will Smith to leave the game after Rojas. Rojas tied the game with a home run in the ninth inning. It was only the second time in World Series history that a game-tying, or even go-ahead, home run has been hit in the ninth-inning of a World Series. The other one being Bill Mazeroski’s infamous walk-off homer from 1960.
But it is not as good as No. 1. 1. Yoshinobu YamamotoYamamoto as the World Series MVP has to be at the top of the list considering the circumstances. He started 48 regular-season games and pitched six playoff starts before the NLCS. He then threw two complete games in a row, including the Game 2 of this Series. In Game 6, he pitched six innings. He came back to go 2 ⅔ heroic innings in Game 7 to grab the win.
He was able to escape a bases-loaded jam with one out in the ninth. He then worked around Guerrero’s double to bring the game home in the 11th.
