INGLEWOOD — In one of 2025’s best NFL games, the Los Angeles Rams played the San Francisco 49ers at SoFi Stadium. Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay gambled on fourth-and-1 in overtime, but the running back Kyren William was stopped, ending the game with a loss of 26-23. Since then, Los Angeles has played like they’re in a completely different league among NFC competitors. The Rams’ offense has been near-perfect, and quarterback Matthew Stafford is playing at MVP level at 37. That loss to the 49ers, and the weeks between, have all been part of the buildup for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. Los Angeles’ winning streak was based on a lot of offense. But it was the defense which made a big statement in a 21-19 win that moved them to the top of the NFC West.
Los Angeles forced four Seahawks turnovers, and held on to a dramatic win after Seahawks kicker Jason Myers failed a 61 yard attempt with no remaining time.
Jared Verse said to CBS Sports that “we learned how to work as a team”. “Like holding ourselves together and each other to high standards. I will never make someone do something that I wouldn’t do myself. The Rams, according to FanDuel are favorites to win NFC West with a -220 and second best odds (3/1) to represent NFC in Super Bowl LX. This is behind the Philadelphia Eagles who have won five consecutive games. Eagles hold the tiebreaker in head-to-head due to a 33-26 victory earlier this year. Rams’ defense takes over Stafford’s offense and Stafford’s performance in that game was far from his usual high-powered self. Stafford completed 15-of-28 for 130 yard and two touchdowns. He also threw a 1-yard touchdown to Davante Adams, his star receiver for his 1000th career reception.
Stafford’s 15 passing completions, and 130 yards of passing were season lows. Stafford’s 22 touchdown passes in the last seven matches and zero interceptions are season highs. Stafford, Drew Brees or Patrick Mahomes were the only quarterbacks with at least 25 touchdowns and two interceptions through the first ten games. Stafford was picked up and his offense by the defense, despite Stafford being on field for most of the game. Seattle won time of possession behind a balanced attack (37.49 to 22.11). Los Angeles was expected to play a strong offense.
Matthew Stafford is endorsed by Rams teammates as NFL MVP, even though odds favor the veteran quarterback
Carter Bahns
McVay stated, “We will never apologize for our ability to find ways to win.” This is a resilient team. I was impressed with our defense. … The fight is never over. The defense and special team did a fantastic job. They made enough offensive plays.”
Stafford’s representatives were allowed to contact other teams earlier this offseason in order to determine what contract they would offer if Stafford was traded. But the decision was made without hesitation to restructure Stafford’s contract in order to bring him home. This has been a huge success. As of Sunday evening, Stafford is still the favorite to win NFL MVP (+170) on FanDuel ahead of New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye despite a lackluster performance to his standards.Verse called Stafford a “wizard man”. I don’t understand how he does it at that age. He’s only a dawg who throws the ball around and dots it. Stafford is all you need to know. Camp, I have seen everything. It’s who he really is.Sam Darnold rewinds the clock in the wrong manner. Seahawks franchise quarterback Darnold posted solid box scores by completing 29 out of 44 attempts, for 279 yardage. However, his four interceptions tied the career-worst. Darnold last threw four picks in a game in Week 7 of the 2019 campaign, against the New England Patriots.
Darnold was 11 out of 32 in that game for only 86 yards. You may be wondering why that game sounds familiar. Darnold was infamous for telling reporters he saw ghosts after the worst stats of his career. Seattle acquired Darnold in the offseason, after trading Geno to the Las Vegas Raiders. They wanted to stabilize the franchise after Darnold had a career turnaround with the Minnesota Vikings. Darnold’s time in Minnesota ended in a sour note after he lost 27-9 to the Rams during the wild-card round. Darnold’s first encounter with the Rams was on Sunday. Darnold’s record as a starter since last season is 21-7. Darnold is 0-3 now against the Rams.
Darnold stated, “You can’t throw the ball away as much as you did today.” “I’ll learn from it. Watch the tape and grow from it. … I have to get better personally and I am confident that we will grow and learn from this experience.”Darnold will be able to redeem himself and Seattle next month, when they host the Rams during Week 16 at home. But for now, the Rams have the NFC West’s title in their hands. Los Angeles, after this game, looks like the NFC team to beat too with only seven weeks remaining in regular season.
