Paul Scholes points out Liverpool’s ‘big miss’ during nightmare run of defeats

Liverpool’s deteriorating form has been highlighted by Manchester United legend Paul Scholes. They have lost four straight games in the Premier League and won only one game in their last six in all competitions. Arne Slot had hoped last Wednesday’s 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt would help his team get back on track. Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in Sunday’s match against Arsenal has left them seven points behind league leaders. Scholes says that things have changed dramatically and the absence of a player is a major factor in Liverpool’s current struggles. Alisson Becker, who injured his hip last month, has not been playing since. The goalkeeper saved Liverpool on a number of occasions in the early part of the season, but his understudy – £25million signing Giorgi Mamardashvili – hasn’t been able to come up with the same heroics.Alisson is expected to be out until late November, leaving the Reds with a ‘big’ problem. “There’s something wrong there [at Liverpool],” Scholes said on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.READ MORE: Liverpool told what’s holding Alexander Isak back after £125m transfer – ‘You can see’READ MORE: Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk causes disagreement as Rio Ferdinand hits back”When you’ve got a good team, you try and strengthen it. When you win the league, you bring in new players. Somehow, it just doesn’t happen.”I think that the goalkeeper has been a major miss. Alisson has been a major miss. It’s not that this ‘keeper plays badly, but I think every shot he takes is a goal. This is not a positive trait.”Mamardashvili will start the Carabao Cup match at home against Palace on Wednesday, but he’s not the only one to worry about. And he nearly gave up.”It seems like they’ve lost all determination to prevent goals from being scored. They will score goals, I believe, with their quality and the fact that it is still early in the year. Teams don’t win leagues anymore by losing four games in a row.
