Both Paddy Pimblett, and Justin Gaethje won the UFC Lightweight Title sweepstakes.
Since Ilia Topuria defeated Charles Oliveira at UFC 317 in June, the debate has been raging over who will be next to challenge for the 155-pound gold.
On merit, many pointed to Arman Tsarukyan, who successfully made weight as the backup fighter for the division’s last title fight. Tsarukyan’s submission of Dan Hooker in UFC Qatar last Saturday cemented his position as the top contender.
The Armenian did not get the second spot in a title match at UFC 324. Topuria has taken a break from the UFC due to personal problems. Gaethje, and Pimblett will fight for a interim belt in Las Vegas on January 24.
Tsarukyan is left in the cold.
