Mike Evans Injury Update and When Could Bucs WR Return After Latest Setback?

Tom Pelissero, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, provided an update regarding Evans’ injury on Thursday. The Buccaneers placed the veteran onto the injured reserve. Pelissero stated that Evans would have to miss at least 4 games to be placed on the injured reserves. Evans had been out of action for three games before sustaining his injury on Monday. He has played four matches this year and recorded 14 receptions, 140 yards and one touchdown. Before the Bucs lost 24-9 to the Lions he had four targets, but no receptions. Evans, who was a first-round selection in 2014, had 1,000 receiving yards or more in every one of his 11 NFL season. He recorded 1,004 yards with 11 touchdowns despite missing three matches last year. Evans’ streak of 1,000 yard seasons is likely to end when he doesn’t play again until December at the earliest, barring an unlikely late-season miracle. The Tampa Bay wide receivers have had to deal with injuries all season. Chris Godwin, who suffered a season-ending ankle fracture last year, missed the first three games this year. He is now battling a fibula strain that has kept him out of the last two games. Todd Bowles said that Godwin would not be playing this week against the New Orleans Saints. Even with injuries to Evans, Godwin and the Buccaneers have a 5-2 record. Baker Mayfield’s MVP-caliber performance, which has seen him accumulate 1,767 yards of passing and 13 touchdowns, is a large reason for the Buccaneers’ strong start. Emeka Egbuka, a rookie wide receiver, has had a strong start as well. He’s recorded 527 yards and scored five touchdowns. This duo will be enough to propel Tampa Bay into playoffs. Evans’ return could make the Bucs an intimidating opponent in the postseason.
