South African Weather Service has issued a level 9 orange weather warning for Gauteng, and parts of Mpumalanga in the extreme west. SAWS warned that heavy rain and severe thunderstorms were likely to occur in the two provinces beginning early Sunday morning. Both provinces are expected to receive rain between 100mm and 150mm, which may cause widespread flooding, bridge and road damage, mudslides and rockfalls, and even dam wall breaks. A low pressure system is predicted to affect KwaZulu-Natal from Saturday to Monday. This weather pattern was similar in April 2022, when floods caused more than 430 deaths and billions of dollars in infrastructure damage. TimesLIVE
