Leicester City This week, the Sky Bet Championship will be deciding whether or not they will receive a point deduction. An independent commission hearing will start later in the week. Lawyers from both parties are expected to testify for two days.
The commission has not given a timeframe for its decision. However, all parties want to resolve the issue quickly. Sky Sports News was told that a resolution could be reached before Christmas or in the early part of the new year.
The EFL can now impose penalties on behalf of the Premier League if they decide to do so. This would be the first time that the EFL has ever been able to do this. It could mean that Leicester is given a penalty points for their infractions in the Championship.
Leicester claimed that when facing PSR charges, in September 2024, the Premier League did not have jurisdiction to punish them after their relegation from the top tier, as they had dropped down into the Championship and were no longer subject to Premier League rules.
Leicester won the legal battle. However, their victory led to both EFL and Premier League changing their regulations so that clubs could no longer use this defence.

Leicester will be charged with three separate offenses this time. They are: failing to submit their annual accounts to the Premier League by the deadline of December 31, breaching a rule that is explicitly stated in the League handbook, which states all clubs have an obligation to “provide full, complete and timely assistance to the Premier League”.Independent commentators told Sky Sports News that Leicester’s defense is likely to be focused on the principle of the second two charges holding no weight. Having won their case before the courts that the Premier League acted beyond its jurisdiction they feel that they were also under no obligation to submit their accounts within the allotted deadline.
