While Alabama’s safety net is gone, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and the Georgia Bulldogs still have it and reside in comfortable spots inside the top 10.
A&M survived an upset bid from the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday. The Aggies have secured their place in the playoffs, but the results of the SEC Championship Game and the Texas game will determine whether or not they receive a bye in the first round.
Ole Miss defeated the Florida Gators and moved to 10-1, essentially clinching a playoff spot. Lane Kiffin will have a spot in the 12 team field no matter what happens to the Mississippi State Bulldogs this Thanksgiving weekend.
Georgia eliminated Texas for the moment from playoff contention with a 35-10 win in Athens. UGA can improve its chances of a bye for the first round in two weeks, when they face off against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
A minimum of four SEC teams will be in the 12-team field. Alabama’s performance will determine if a fifth team can be added.
