    Judy Murray wants PE to be made school priority and calls for much bigger presence of wome

    Tennis After announcing the expansion of a programme designed to keep girls physically active, Judy Murray has called on a greater presence of women within sporting workplaces. She said that sport helps develop vital life skills such a leadership, resilience and communications while also benefiting children’s mental and physical health.
    The mother of tennis stars Jamie and Sir Andy Murray called on young people to exercise at least 40 minutes a day. She said physical literacy was just as important as alphabetical and numerical literacy.

    She announced an expansion of her Learn to Lead programme, which aims to empower and equip young girls to be Scotland’s next sporting leaders by supporting them to run lunchtime and after school clubs.

    After an investment by Sky, the program will be available to 50 additional schools.
    Girls aged 11-18 who do not participate in sport as much as boys, miss 280 million hours per year.
    The study also concluded that playing sports as a kid was just as good an indicator of success in the future as obtaining a degree from university.
    Ms Murray returned to Dunblane primary school, where she and both her sons were students.We started Learn to Lead back in June, with 25 schools. The schools must have a teacher that is willing to supervise the older P6s and 7s in leading fun lunchtime and after school clubs. It’s an excellent way for older girls to develop their leadership skills within a sports context and in the school environment.
