Joe Burrow injury updates: Bengals QB eyes comeback, but no ‘definitive return date’

Joe Burrow was able to return to limited practice last week. This has fueled speculation on when the Bengals Pro Bowl QB will be playing again. Melanie Collins of CBS Sports provided an update regarding Burrow’s status and the Bengals’ plans for him following Cincinnati’s 34-12 loss against the Steelers in Week 11. Burrow worked on 7-on-7 drills during last week’s practice. The plan is for him to throw an 11-on-11 against the scouts this week.
Collins stated that “a number of reports” have been made about his return. “I was informed by the Bengals today that Week 14 against Bills or Week 13 against Ravens could be a possibility. Joe Burrow has not set a return date yet. Burrow, who hasn’t played since sustaining his turf toe injury back in Week 2, said last week that “a lot of variables” will go into his return. Burrow acknowledged that it would “very” be meaningful for him to return in Baltimore where he sustained his season-ending injury 2023. The number one issue is how [the toe] Burrow said that last week. “We’ll just keep taking it day by day like we did throughout the rehabilitation process.”

Joe Flacco is the Bengals’ new quarterback. Flacco was acquired from Cleveland by Cincinnati in a trade after the Bengals had a 0-3 record with Jack Browning at center. Burrow, the top pick in the NFL Draft 2020, led the Bengals in his first season as their starting quarterback to the Super Bowl. In the following season, Burrow led Cincinnati within a single game of the Super Bowl while earning MVP consideration. Burrow won NFL Comeback Player Of The Year last year for a second consecutive time. He led the NFL with 4,918 yard and 43 touchdowns.

Since Burrow’s injury, Cincinnati has only gone 1-7. While the defense has been the Achilles heel of the team, neither side played well in the 34-12 loss against Pittsburgh. Two critical offense turnovers led to the Steelers scoring two touchdowns. The Bengals’ defense allowed the Steelers convert on over half of their third-down attempts, despite Aaron Rodgers being forced to leave the game after halftime due to a left wrist fracture.
